The mossy muddy misty forest of Gunung Brinchang
The mossy forest is situated only a few kilometers from the top of Gunung Brinchang, the second highest peak of Cameron Highlands (Malaysia). With its 2000m high, it’s quite a long journey to walk to the top from Cameron Highlands main road. The hike is said to be a very steep 4 hours walk into a thick jungle and is supposed to be very nice, but we decided to go to the mossy forest by road.
A bus will drop you at the Sungei Palas Junction for 4 ringgits from Tanah Rata.
Schedule from Tanah Rata bus station: 8.30am, 10.30am, 12.30pm, 2.30pm and 4.30pm.
For the way back check with the driver.
From Sungei Palas junction we hitch-hiked to the mossy forest but we didn’t go to the top of Gunung Brinchang as the weather was foggy and there would obviously be no view there. The mossy forest was a great experience. The beginning of the trail is made of wooden bridges, making us feel like this was no adventure at all, we just followed the path, up, right, up, down, left, down, right. A bit of a labyrinth!!
The wooden path suddenly disappears and we got into the forest….. Nothing moving….. A deep silence…. Fog all around ….. Muddy floor ….. crawling our way under a branch, over a root …. It was amazing!! The atmosphere was something between scary, magical, and mystical. We were lucky enough to be there early morning and there was absolutely no one around!
We walked for about half an hour into the forest, and then turned around and went back to the road.
The main road was another beautiful atmosphere and we decided to walk down to reach the famous BOH tea plantations. It was a great walk down hill and it took us around 45 minutes to reach Sungei Estate. By the time we got there, the sun was shining and what we discovered was stunning !!!
