I’d like to go trekking from Inle Lake to Kalaw, but a guide on my own is way too expensive (75000K), I need to find more travelers to share with!

I ask in Gipsy Inn, Joy Hotel and several travel agencies, but they don’t have any groups going, it’s low season.

I decide not to do it and start asking about the shorter treks on the east side of the lake. A guide explains me the half day trek, going to Htat Ein caves, Lwe Kin village, and the Red Mountain winery. It costs 7000K.

I tell him I’ll think about it and come back later tonight to book. On my way back to the hotel, I suddenly realized I didn’t need a guide to do that! He just explained me everything!

That’s settled, I’ll go on my own tomorrow, and leave for Bagan in the evening.

Mark and Amy advised me a cheap travel agency in town: Century Travels.

Ma Su (short name for Ma Su Su Htwe), the owner, is an extremely friendly lady, with such a sweet voice and so helpful! I get my ticket for Bagan (11000K. 1000K cheaper than at the hotel), and she invites us all for dinner, as she always does for every customer! How generous is that!

Her sister cooks wonderfully  and prepares us a rice noodle soup with tomatoes, veggies and peanuts. SO fresh and tasty! We also get fried pork skin, bananas, tea, and strange sweets specially made for the festivals. Delicious!

If you need anything in Nyaungshwe, go to ma Su, she’ll help you and you’ll get very good prices!

Nyaungshwe

Nyaungshwe

She would like to open a restaurant some day, it would be great as I found it difficult to find some good and cheap food in this town!

Here’s the address:

Century Travels

Yone Gyi Road

Kanthar Quarter

Nyaungshwe.

How to find it:

The agency is situated on the left hand side of the main road – going east, away from the river. It’s in the first block, the same as Joy Guest House.
